He is director of the Rathgen Research Laboratory in Berlin. He works mainly on material conservation projects. He interprets the thin sections routinely studied in our investigations. He has great experience with material from Manching. In addition to his paper on thin section microscopy he is a coauthor on many of the contributions to the Hyperfine Interactions special issue on "Mössbauer Spectroscopy in Archaeology".
